The Presence of Love: What If It Was Here All Along?
I've been thinking about something from A Course in Miracles. It talks about removing the blocks to the awareness of love's presence.
And I started wondering about those moments when life feels like it's going our way.
You know those moments when something wonderful happens, everything seems to line up, and we think, "Oh, the universe must really love me today!"
Like we've just received a gold star from the universe.
But what if the universe wasn't giving us a gold star?
What if it had been giving us one all along?
I think sometimes we interpret the presence of love through what's happening around us. When things work out, we feel supported. When things don't work out, we start wondering where that support went.
And I understand why. It's a lot easier to recognize love when life is cooperating with our preferences!
But maybe love isn't coming and going quite as much as our awareness of it is.
That doesn't mean we have to pretend something painful is wonderful. It doesn't mean every disappointment is secretly a blessing, either.
We can acknowledge what's happening without making it evidence that love has abandoned us.
So here's something I've been playing with.
Instead of asking, "Where is the love I want?" what happens when we ask, "Where am I already experiencing the presence of love?"
Maybe it's in a conversation. Maybe it's in a quiet moment with ourselves. Maybe it's in something we've been overlooking because it doesn't look quite the way we expected.
And perhaps there's another question worth exploring.
Where might I be blocking my awareness of that love—not because I'm doing anything wrong, but because I've become so focused on what I think it should look like?
I don't think we need to manufacture an answer.
We might just notice something we hadn't noticed before.
