What If Peace Is Protecting You?

We hear the phrase all the time: protect your peace.
And there is truth in that. Boundaries matter. Rest matters. The people, spaces, and conversations we give our energy to matter.
But at our recent Peace Through Presence and Play gathering, a softer message came through:
What if peace is not only something we protect? What if peace is something that protects us?
That really stayed with me.
Because sometimes “protect your peace” can make peace sound fragile, like one hard conversation, one uncomfortable emotion, or one unexpected moment can take it away from us.
But what if peace is stronger than that?
What if peace can be like a shield when we need clarity, and like a warm blanket when we need softness?
Not a shield that shuts life out. Not a blanket that helps us avoid what needs to be faced. But a presence within us that helps us pause, breathe, soften, and choose the next aligned step.
Peace does not mean we become passive.
Sometimes peace asks us to set the boundary. Sometimes peace asks us to have the conversation. Sometimes peace asks us to leave the room, tell the truth, or make the change.
But the difference is this:
The action comes from alignment instead of fear.
For me, peace often feels like a softening in the body. My shoulders drop. My breath comes back. My jaw unclenches. There is a little more space inside.
And from that space, the next step becomes clearer.
That is the practical invitation in this message.
The next time you feel activated, pause for a moment. Place a hand on your heart. Take one breath. Then ask:
What would peace have me do next?
Not what would fear do.Not what would control do.Not what would people-pleasing do.
What would peace do?
I recorded a short reflection on this message, and you can watch it here:
Maybe the question is not only, “How do I protect my peace?”
Maybe the deeper question is:
How is my peace protecting me right now?
If you are in the Indianapolis area and would like to explore this in a grounded, relaxed, and supportive space, you are invited to join us for Peace Through Presence and Play.
